Site History:

There is a long standing Letter of Agreement between Edinburgh NATS and Scottish Mountain Paragliding Club that defines the limits of areas that can be flown and the procedures for requesting permission.

Brief Site Description:

Just south of Edinburgh in the Pentland Hills. Can be flown in a variety of wind conditions and has a chair lift to within a few minutes of launch.

How to get there:

400m south of the City of Edinburgh by pass on the A702 Edinburgh to Biggar road. Follow minor road to the Midlothian Ski Centre.

Launch Notes:

Either walk up the hill directly behind the ski tows or get the chair lift. Most popular launch for the north face is right by the summit cairn.

See picture below. Note carefully the positions of fields used for grazing horses and position of windsock.

 

 

Hazards:

Deep heather at launch and gorse bushes in landing area. Avoid loosing height over the ski slopes and associated lift machinery.
